UCLA's Lisa Dodd Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week
Feb. 20, 2007
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior Lisa Dodd has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Feb. 13-19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Dodd was the biggest force in a Bruins lineup that run-ruled four opponents last week and posted a 5-1 record overall. The second baseman/pitcher had a hit in all six games and drove in 12 RBI in just 18 at bats.
In UCLA's home opener against UC Riverside on Tuesday, Dodd started her week off in the best possible way, cracking her fourth career grand slam in the bottom of the first inning. She would add an RBI single in the fourth inning to account for five RBI in UCLA's 14-0 win.
On Friday, the Bruins faced UCF in their second game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. Dodd provided all of the offense for UCLA in the third inning with a three-run homer that proved to be the difference as UCLA won 3-0.
Dodd would add her third home run of the week on Sunday against Wright State and pick up three more RBI. The Bruins cruised to a 12-2 win over Wright State in five innings, and Dodd made her first pitching appearance of the season in the game, working the final three innings to pick up the win.
For the week, Dodd batted .500 (9-for-18) with five runs scored, one double, three home runs and 12 RBI. Her 14 RBI on the season tie for third in the Pac-10 and her .786 slugging percentage ranks fifth.
14th-ranked UCLA (7-4) participates in the Palm Springs Classic this weekend in Palm Springs, Calif.
This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Dodd, however she has one Pitcher of the Week award to her credit, earned on May 10, 2005. She becomes the first Bruin to take home both awards in a career since Tanya Harding in 1995. It is the 95th all-time Player/Pitcher of the Week award for UCLA.
