Cross Country Teams, Runners Earn National Academic Honors

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University women's and men's cross country teams were named Div. I All-Academic teams by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Cougar Head Coach Jason Drake announced Thursday.
The Cougar men's cross country team was one of 86 teams Division I teams to meet USTFCCCA All-Academic qualifications. Criteria for USTFCCCA All-Academic team selection include a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher, and participating in the NCAA regional meet. The WSU men had a cumulative grade point average of 3.110 and finished 29th at the NCAA 2006 Championships. The Cougar women's cross country team was one of 145 teams to be honored for the 2006 season after posting a 3.470 GPA.
Three Cougars also earned 2006 NCAA Div. I individual All-Academic honors. Alex Grant (redshirt junior, Bellingham, Wash.) and Woody Favinger (sophomore, Bellingham, Wash.) were selected to the men's national team while Haley Paul (junior, Phoenix, Ariz.) was named to the women's national team for the second consecutive year.
