BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Top 6 seeds in each of the 10 weight classes at the 2007 Pac-10 Wrestling Championships were released, along with the tournament brackets, Friday afternoon for the event that will take place Saturday and Sunday inside the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif. Five Sun Devils earned seedings for the event with all five placed in the Top 3 of their weight classes.

Brian Stith (157) and Greg Gifford (184) both earned the top seed in their respective weight classes while Patrick Pitsch, the defending champion at 165 pounds, was seeded second. John Espinoza (125) and Jason Trulson (197) were both seeded third in their divisions.

All nine Sun Devils entered into the tournament will not compete in the championship pigtail rounds as each wrestlers' random draw placed them in position for a bye into the quarterfinals. The Top 3 placers in each bracket, along with nine wildcard selections based on a coaches' vote following the tournament, earn a berth into the NCAA Wrestling Championships, March 15-17, inside the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Of the opening bouts, six Sun Devils have already met their foes earlier in the season with another two possibly facing a familiar foe depending upon who wins the opening round bout. No. 3 Espinoza will meet No. 6 Brandon Zoetewey of CS Bakersfield with the Roadrunner winning the earlier bout, an 8-4 decision in Tempe. Shawn Jones (133) drew a tough task in the opening round as he will face top-seeded Darrell Vasquez of Cal Poly, who pinned Jones at the Las Vegas Invitational. Robert Galvan (141) will take on No. 2 Justin Pearch of Oregon, who he lost an 11-5 decision to in Eugene earlier this year.

No. 1 Stith has not faced his opening round foe, Kyle Bounds of Oregon. No. 2 Pitsch will meet Evan Barbre of CPU in the first round after pinning the Mustang in 4:13 of the home dual earlier this month. No.3 Trulson and No. 6 John Drake of CS Fullerton will square off at 197 pounds with Trulson winning twice over Drake this year, including a 4-1 decision in Las Vegas and a 3-1 victory in Tempe. Thor Moen will meet No. 2 Andy Patrick of Boise State, a foe that won a 12-4 major decision in the Las Vegas event.

Rick Renzi (174) and No. 1 Gifford (184) will have to await pigtail results to see who they will face. Renzi has not faced No. 1 seed Ken Cook of UC Davis this year but has met his foe, Garth Wara (CSF), whom he scored an 18-10 major decision over in a home dual. Gifford pinned one of the first two possibilities, sticking Oregon's Brysen French in 3:22 in Eugene, while he has not taken on Jake Schneider of Portland State.

Fans can log on to www.Pac-10.org both days of the tournament to watch a live web cast of the event.
