The USC women's golf team, ranked 11th in the most recent Golfweek.com Top 25, continues the 2006-2007 spring schedule at the 2007 Wildcat Invitational, Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 26-27), at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
The 15-team field is loaded and includes host No. 10 Arizona, No. 2 Arizona State, No. 21 BYU, California, No. 3 Duke, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 4 Pepperdine, No. 7 Stanford, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 UCLA, UNLV, No. 11 USC, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Virginia and Washington.
Play begins at 8 a.m. (MST) both days, with teams playing 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The course is 6,238 yards and a par 71.
USC is led by junior Paola Moreno, who is ranked No. 22 in the country by Golfweek.com. She boasts a team-best 73.80 stroke average (for those with more than one tournament played) and has a pair of top seven finishes. She fired a season-low 69 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Spring semester transfer freshman Belen Mozo made her debut at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge earlier in February and led the team with a tie for eighth place, firing a three-day 221. Mozo is coming off a highly successful 2006 amateur season. She won the 2006 Girls' British Open Amateur Championship and the British Ladies Open Amateur Championships, making her the first woman to win both titles in the same year since 1972. She also won the International European Ladies Amateur Championship.
Senior Catalina Marin is averaging 75.53 and has a pair of top 10 finishes while fellow senior Veronica Felibert has a stroke average of 75.92. She has already won one tourney this season (the Topy Cup in Japan) and has another top 20 finish.
Junior two-time All-American and 2006 defending NCAA individual champion Dewi-Claire Schreefel, in four starts, is averaging 75.58 per round with a pair of top 20 performances.
