No. 13 USC Wins Again, Beats San Diego 6-1

Feb. 24, 2007

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- The No. 13 USC men's tennis team has extended its powerful season start to nine straight wins -- the best start since 1991 -- after grabbing a 6-1 win at No. 47 San Diego on Saturday morning. For the first time all year, the doubles point eluded the Trojans, but singles play won out with six straight wins to get USC to a 9-0 record on the year.

In a slightly different doubles lineup than in recent matches, USC notched the first win with Gary Sacks / Whit Livingston's 8-5 win at No. 3. Playing at the No. 2 spot, Adam Loucks / Garrett Snyder fell 8-4 to USD's Wolmarans/Mouly. At No. 1, the Torero pair of Liversage/Coetzee eked out a tiebreaker win with a 9-8 (7-5) decision over Robert Farah / Kaes Van't Hof to claim the doubles point for San Diego.

Those Trojans slighted in doubles made certain to finish things off in singles, however. After Jason McNaughton opened the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Charl Wolmarans, Robert Farah topped Ryo Sekiguchi 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4. Garrett Snyder would follow with a decisive 6-3, 6-4 win over Matt Ozurovich at the No. 6 spot, and then Dejan Cvetkovic clinched the match with his 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Jonas Mouly at No. 2. Kaes Van't Hof battled out the longest match of the day, staking a comeback win over Chris Coetzee after trailing 1-4 in the third set to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 singles position. Jamil Al-Agba then put the finishing touches on USC's 6-1 win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Thomas Liversage from the No. 1 slot.

USC returns to Marks Stadium for dual match play in two weeks to square off against Rice and crosstown rival UCLA. The Trojans face the Owls at 1 p.m. on Wednesday (March 7) and then play the Bruins at 1 p.m. on Friday (March 9).
