Stanford Women Claim Second, Men Finish Fourth At MPSF Track And Field Championships

Stanford track and field completed competition at the final day of the MPSF Championships in Seattle, Wash. The women's team finished the meet in second place with 96 points, while the men finished fourth with 79.50 points.

Erica McLain led the women with a first place finish in the triple jump, recording an NCAA automatic qualifying leap of 13.51 meters and earning her team 10 points. Teammate Lauren Stewart finished in seventh place, earning two points with a mark of 12.09 meters.

Alicia Follmar and Mary Liz McCurdy combined to earn 10 points in the mile, with Follmar placing third in a time of 4:50.55 and McCurdy finishing fifth with a 4:51.84.

Ashley Freeman earned an NCAA provisional time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.59 to finish fourth. Also recording an NCAA provisional time was Teresa McWalters who ran the 3000 meters in a time of 9:22.97 to finish second.

Overall, the women combined to earn 96 total points and finish in second place. Arizona State took the top spot with 135 points, while Cal rounded out the top three, earning 79 points.

For the men, the 800-meter run was their most successful event, as Russell Brown and Michael Garcia combined to earn 12 team points for the Cardinal. Brown finished second in an NCAA provisional time of 1:49.23, while Garcia came in fourth with a time of 1:50.39.

Also finishing with an NCAA provisional mark was Graeme Hoste, who cleared 5.32 meters in the pole vault to claim second place and eight team points.

Zach Chandy managed to earn the Cardinal six points for his third place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 47.97. Chandy also anchored the men's 4x400 relay team as they finished in third place with a time of 3:13.87.

The men's team finished fourth overall, earning a total of 79.5 points. Washington won the team title with 109 points, while Arizona (88) finished second and Oregon (86) rounded out the top three.
