Cal Competes at Wildcat Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - California competes at the Wildcat Invitational Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 26-27, at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The tournament features 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday on the par 71, 6,238-yard course. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. each day. Golfstat.com will run live stats for the event.
The 15-team field includes seven schools in the top 10 according to the Golfweek rankings and 12 teams in the top 25. Teams competing include No. 10 Arizona, No. 2 Arizona State, No. 21 Brigham Young, California, No. 3 Duke, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 4 Pepperdine, No. 7 Stanford, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 UCLA, No. 31 UNLV, No. 11 USC, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Virginia and Washington. Defending individual champion Jacqui Concolino (Vanderbilt), Jennie Lee (Duke), Amanda Blumenherst (Duke), and Arizona's Alison Walshe highlight the field individually, as they are each ranked in the top six in the Golfweek Performance Index.

Cal opened the spring season by placing 14th at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge with a 54-hole score of 944 (+92). Sophomore Allison Goodman led the Bears for the third time this year, tying for 21st at 228 (+15).
At last year's Wildcat Invitational, No. 15 California tied for third with No. 2 UCLA with a school-record 54-hole score of 859 at Arizona National Golf Course. The Golden Bears carded a five-over 289 in the final round to finish 19 shots behind No. 8 Arizona State (840) and 13 shots behind No. 1 Duke (846). Then-senior Sophia Sheridan placed second with a school-record 54-hole score of eight-under 205 to lead Cal. The previous record was seven-under (209 and 206). Sheridan also finished second at the 2004 Wildcat Invitational.
Goodman tied for 17th at one-over 214 at the 2006 Wildcat Invitational. Goodman recorded a two-under 69 in the final round and was at minus-four through seven holes on the strength of an eagle on the 11th hole (par 5) and three birdies.
