Feb. 25, 2007
LOS ANGELES - Anthony Scelfo's three-run homer in the sixth sparked a five-run inning Sunday as the No. 21 Tulane Green Wave defeated the USC Trojans, 5-3. at Dedeaux Field. The Green Wave (5-4) earned its lone win of the series with today's victory.
USC (9-7) took the lead in the third when the Trojans executed a triple steal with the bases loaded as third baseman Michael Torres stole home. Tulane starter Shooter Hunt (2-1) then retired J.J. Owen on a fly out to end the inning.
Hunt went 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts to earn the win for the Green Wave.
Trojan starter Tommy Milone (2-2) faced the minimum through five innings, thanks to three double plays turned by his defense. After giving up only two hits, a walk to Aja Barto and an infield single by Seth Henry set up Scelfo's home run. Three errors by Torres in the inning set up two more runs for Tulane.
The Trojans were able to chip away at the lead with a run in the seventh on Grant Green's RBI single and a solo home run in the eighth by Lucas Duda. Daniel Latham retired the Trojans in order in the ninth for his third save of the season.
Reliever Shawn Olsen threw three no-hit innings for the Trojans.
