Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior right-hander Tyson Brummett earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 19-25, the conference announced Tuesday. Brummett (3-1) pitched his second complete game in as many outings and struck out 10 batters to lead the Bruins to a 6-2 victory at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Feb. 23.
The Salem, Utah, native allowed just two runs off five hits through 9.0 innings to notch his third victory of the season. The senior right-hander has issued just five walks in 33.2 innings.
Brummett pitched a complete game the previous Friday (Feb. 16), leading UCLA past East Carolina, 6-1, at Jackie Robinson Stadium. He totaled nine strikeouts against the Pirates and did not issue a walk. Brummett is averaging 8+ innings pitched per start this season.
The Bruins' ace is the second UCLA baseball player to earn Pac-10 weekly honors this season - Brandon Crawford captured Pac-10 Player of the Week accolades for the week of Feb. 12-18. Last season, Brummett was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week on March 7.
No. 23 UCLA returns to action with a three-game series at No. 16 Mississippi, beginning Friday, March 9. First pitch at Oxford-University Stadium is slated for 6:30 p.m. CST (4:30 p.m. PST).
