WSU and UCLA Meet Friday in Pac-10 Tournament First Round

COMING UP NEXT: Washington State (5-23 overall; 1-17 Pac-10) takes to the court in the first round of the 2007 State Farm Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament...the Cougars take on the UCLA Bruins (13-17 overall; 7-11 Pac-10) Friday, Mar. 2 at 6:00 p.m....all Pac-10 Tournament games will be held at the HP Pavilion Center in San Jose, Calif...the winner of Friday's WSU-UCLA game will advance to play No. 2 seed Arizona State at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3.
COUGAR RECAP - OREGON STATE 65, WSU 61: Kate Benz picked up her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds while Amanda DuRocher recorded a career-high 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from three-point range...WSU dominated much of the first half, using a 20-2 run to take a 12-point lead into halftime...the Cougars led by as many as 17 points before Oregon State pulled to within seven after two successful Casey Nash free throws...OSU regained the lead, which they had not done since 12:43 in the first half, with a 15-3 run late in the second half...the Beavers hit 7-of-8 shots from the free throw line in the closing minutes of play to seal the victory...as a team, WSU shot a season-high 47 percent from the three point line and outrebounded the Beavers 44-27.
A LOOK AT THE BRUINS: UCLA finished the regular season with a seventh place conference finish and a Pac-10 record of 7-11...the Bruins are led by Noelle Quinn who is averaging 17.0 ppg and 6.9 rpg to lead the team in both categories...Quinn is fifth in the conference in points and tenth in rebounds...Lindsey Pluimer is contributing 15.6 ppg and scored 15 against Stanford and 18 against California...as a team, the Bruins rank second in the conference in three-point percentage, shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc, and second in rebounds with 40.5 rpg...UCLA is looking to snap a five-game losing streak...the Bruins, however, defeated Stanford 85-76 in overtime to clinch the 2006 Pac-10 Tournament title and earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
THE UCLA-WSU SERIES: The Bruins are 2-0 against the Cougars in 2007 but have won both games by a combined six points only...UCLA defeated WSU 74-71 Dec. 29 in Pullman, then came back from a 12-point deficit to edge the Cougars by three in Los Angeles, 73-70 Jan. 28...the Bruins have now won the last 13 straight games with WSU's last win coming Jan. 6, 2001 in Pullman.
BENZ GRABS WSU's ALL-TIME CAREER REBOUND TITLE: Kate Benz picked up 11 rebounds Thursday, Feb. 22 against Oregon to claim WSU's all-time career rebound title...the 6-foot-2 forward cleared Cassandra Overby's career total of 875 to claim the top spot...with 14 rebounds against Oregon State Feb. 24, Benz's career number now stands at 896...Benz also needs just six more points to become the 11th women's basketball player in WSU history to reach 1,000 career points...if Benz picks up just six more points and four more rebounds, she would become the first person in WSU women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points and 900 career rebounds.
