Men's Tennis Drops UNLV 6-1

TEMPE, Ariz. - After sweeping doubles and dropping only one singles match the ASU Men's Tennis team steamrolled to a 6-1 win over the UNLV Rebels Friday afternoon at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils are 7-2 on the season with a match against Memphis coming up on Tuesday, March 6 in Tempe.

The Sun Devils came out blazing as they swept doubles from the Rebels with the No. 1 team of Matt Brooklyn and Wes Miller leading the way taking an 8-2 win from UNLV's Brett Hunter and Elliott Wronski with ASU's No. 2 team of Nick Hegarty and Juan Carlos Rebaza and the No. 3 team of T.J. Bellama and Murilo Souza both taking 8-4 wins from the Rebels.

ASU kept their steady pace in singles as spots 1-3, Juan Carlos Rebaza, Matt Brooklyn and Wes Miller all won their matches in straight sets. In the six-spot T.J. Bellama came out to grab a 6-4 win in the first set against UNLV's Slavko Bikelica before dropping the second set 6-2 and rallying back in the tiebreaker 10.

Freshman Murilo Souza found himself in the same situation as he won the first and dropped the second before winning the tiebreak 10-8.

ASU is now 7-2 on the season as they prepare to face Memphis this Tuesday, March 6 at the ASU Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe at 1:30 p.m.
