No. 15 Bruins Ruin UW Pac-10 Home Opener

March 2, 2007

SEATTLE - The Washington Husky women's tennis team (1-8, 0-3 Pac-10) dropped its Pac-10 home opener to the 15th-ranked UCLA Bruins (7-4, 1-0) on Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. UCLA did not drop a set in its 7-0 sweep over the Huskies.

UCLA controlled the match from the start by sweeping all three doubles matches. The UW's No. 1 team of Mathilde Cor (Ugine, France) and Joyce Ardies (Sao Paulo, Brazil) gave UCLA's Alex McGoodwin and Elizabeth Lumpkin a tough time, pushing the Bruins' duo to a tie-breaker. But, UCLA held onto a 6-2 advantage to eventually win 7-5.

In singles, UCLA never let up on the hometown Huskies. Washington was unable to earn more than three games in any of the 12 sets played in the six singles matches.

UCLA was led by No. 62 ranked freshman Yasmin Schnack, who's 6-2, 6-2 win over Cor in the No. 1 singles clinched the match.

The Huskies return to action tomorrow with a Pac-10 match against No. 8 USC at 12 p.m.
