Cougars Held To Three Hits In 12-1 Loss To Lewis-Clark State

LEWISTON, Idaho - Chris Kissock fired a three-hitter and Ryan Anderson drove in three runs as Lewis-Clark State defeated Washington State, 12-1, during Banana Belt Tournament play Saturday afternoon at Harris Field.
With the loss the Cougars snap their four-game winning streak and fall to 6-4 on the season. The Warriors improve to 12-0 overall.
Kissock turne din a strong performance as he went the distance for the Warriors, allowing just three hits. Travis Coulter got to him with a double to lead off the game but was stranded on third at the end of the first. In the fourth Kissock hit Jim Murphy then surrendered a triple to Paul Gran, scoring Murphy with the Cougars only run of the game. In the seventh Lagreid doubled to left, the final Cougar hit of the afternoon.
In all Kissock threw 101 pitches, recording seven strikeouts and two walks, as he improved to 3-0 this season.
Warrior shortstop Mark Thompson put LCSC ahead early leading off the first with a home run to center. In the third Zach Evangelho's one-out single broke of string of seven straight Warriors set down by Cougar starter Nick Ison. Two walks sandwiched around a hit batter followed to push across LCSC's second run of the day before Ison escaped the inning on a fine defensive play by second baseman Josh Ashenbrenner.
That proved to be all the support Kissock needed, although the Cougars had chances to get back into the game. WSU hit into two double plays and three times left a runner stranded at third.
In the sixth Beau Mills connected for his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot over the wall in right, extending the lead to 3-1. Jessie Mier followed with a single to left, ending Ison's day after 5 1/3 innings. Jayson Miller came on to end the inning but not before Mier scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 lead.
Three hits, a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly accounted for a three-run seventh inning for the Warriors, who improved to 3-0 during this weekend's play. LCSC capped its offensive output with a five-run eighth, using five hits and a Cougar error for the final margin of victory.
Ison suffered the loss as his record fell to 1-2 though he did strike out six in his 5 1/3 innings. In all the Cougars used six pitchers on the afternoon.
Offensively for LCSC four different players collected two hits each, while Anderson drvoe in three on a sacrifice fly and a two-run single in the eighth.
The Cougars are next in action Thursday when they begin a three-game series at San Jose State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
