Hodge and Muller Win Twice to Advance to Semifinals

David Hodge and Blake Muller won twice today at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship to earn a spot in the semifinals tomorrow at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Hodge and Muller came back from a 5-2 deficit in the third set of today's quarterfinal match to win 7-6 and advance in the tournament. Also today in the consolation bracket, Stanford's Kevin Kaiser and David Ryan won two matches to advance to the semifinals.
In their first match of the day, Hodge, Stanford's third-year assistant coach, and Muller beat Adam Loucks and Garrett Snyder of USC, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4. In the quarterfinals, they beat another independent team, Ryan Redondo and Peter Smith, the head coach at USC, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. Hodge and Muller battled back from a third set deficit to record the win and earn a spot in the semifinals.
Hodge and Muller will face Drew Hoskins and Abdullah Magdas, an independent team, in Sunday's semifinal round.
In the consolation bracket, Kaiser and Ryan won a fourth round match over Scott Fahrendorf and Brian Maher of Villanova, 6-3, 6-1. They came back in the quarters to beat William Ellison and David Ohem of Claremont-McKenna, 7-6, 7-6. They will play Dimyrto Petrov and Ivan Puchkarov of Oklahoma State in tomorrow's semifinal match. Petrov and Puchkarov eliminated Stanford's Eric McKean and Jeff Zeller in the fourth round with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4) victory.
