Cal in Third After Two Rounds of Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. - California is in third place with a score of 595 Monday after two rounds of the Spartan Invitational at Almaden Country Club. The Golden Bears began the day with a score of 298 in the first round and improved to 297 in the afternoon round.

San Jose State, the host, leads the 14-team tournament at 581, while Colorado is in second at 592. UC Irvine is fourth at 598, and Hawaii is fifth at 602.

Sophomore Allison Goodman leads the Bears in third place at one-over 145. Goodman, who has paced Cal in four tournaments this season, registered a total of five birdies over the first two rounds. Cal sophomore Shannon Yocum is tied for eighth at 148, including a second-round score of 72 on the strength of three birdies.

Freshman Roseanne Niven had a solid day for the Bears and is tied for 19th at 151 after carding a 74 in the second round. Also for Cal, freshman Christina Frick is tied for 37th at 154, and senior Danielle Nash is tied for 41st at 155. Nash began the day with a score of 74.

San Jose State's Jenelle Gomez leads the individual competition at six-under 138, and UC Irvine's Salanee Henderson is second at 141.

The final round begins Wednesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
