Blue Team Finishes Second at Braveheart; Gold Team Places Fourth at USC Invitational

The UCLA men's golf team finished a pair of tournaments Tuesday afternoon at opposite ends of Southern California.
The Blue Team placed second at the UC Riverside Braveheart Classic at Oak Valley in Beaumont and the Gold Team took fourth at the USC Invitational at North Ranch in Westlake Village.
The Blue Team finished 11 shots behind Jacksonville University with a 54-hole score of 905 (+41). The Bruins posted rounds of 297 (+9) and 300 (+12) over the final 36 holes while the Dolphins carded rounds of 295 (+7) and 289 (+1) to make up a four shot deficit in the first round. Utah was third at 924 (+60), followed by Southern Utah and Portland in a tie for fourth at 926 (+62).
Sophomore James Lee led the Blue Team with a fourth place finish at 226 (+10), posting rounds of 75-76-75. Junior Brandon Christianson placed fifth at 227 (+11) after posting rounds of 77-72-78. Craig Leslie finished sixth at 228 (+12) with rounds of 79-75-74. Freshmen Jason Kang and Charlie Harris tied for 18th (231, +15) and tied for 28th (235, +19), respectively.
The Gold Team couldn't hold onto a four-stroke third place cushion entering the final round and dropped to fourth place after posting a score of 300 (+16) on Tuesday. The Bruins' three-round total of 870 (+18) was 22 strokes behind Stanford at 848 (-4). USC placed second at 853 (+1) and Tennessee finished third at 868 (+16). BYU finished fifth at 873 (+21).
After beginning the final round at five-under par in a tie for third place, sophomore Erik Flores fell seven spots after posting a final round 78 (+7) to tie for 10th at 215 (+2). Sophomore Lucas Lee also tied for 10th, carding a final round 74 (+3). Junior Kevin Chappell posted UCLA's best score of the day -- 71 (E) -- and tied for 30th at 220 (+7). Junior Daniel Im tied for 42nd at 10-over 223 and senior Chris Heintz tied for 47th at 225 (+12).
