Women's Golf Finishes Seventh At Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Washington women's golf completed the final round of the Spartan Invitational at Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif., Tuesday, finishing the tournament in seventh with an overall score of 47-over 911.

As a team, the Huskies carded a final round score of 302 after shooting 311 and 298 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Monday. Host San Jose State won the team title by 15 shots, ending the tournament at 13-over 877 overall. Colorado and California tied for second at 28-over 892.

Washington was led by high finishers Amber Prange and Kim Shin, who both finished in a tie for 15th at 9-over 225. Prange shot a 5-over 77 and Shin carded a 2-over 74 in the final round, but it was freshman Molly Aronsson who shot the best round of the day for UW at 1-over 73. Aronsson ended up tied for 24th at 11-over 227. Christina Yoon (56th, 21-over 237) and Molly Boyle (t-62nd, 25-over 241) rounded out the Huskies' five-woman lineup.

UC Irvine's Selanee' Henderson won the individual title at 6-under 210, followed by San Jose State's Jenelle Gomez at 4-under 212. Henderson and Gomez were the only two players to finish the 54-hole tournament under par.

The Huskies also had two players competing alongside the UW men's junior varsity squad at the Washington National Winter Championships, Monday and Tuesday. Senior Amy Wang finished 54 holes at 20-over 236 after carding rounds of 77, 79 and 80. Senior Ashley Bickerton tallied rounds of 87, 94 and 89 to finish at 54-over 270.

The Husky women will return to the links for the Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu, March 20-21.
