March 6, 2007
STANFORD, Calif.- No. 4 Stanford continues its five-match homestand later this weekend when it hosts No. 26 Oregon and No. 34 Texas at the Taube Tennis Center.
The Cardinal improved to 9-1 overall after back-to-back 6-1 victories last week against No. 18 Pepperdine followed by No. 7 California.
This week, Stanford hosts Oregon (8-2) in a conference match scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 10, at 12 p.m. The Ducks continue to climb the national rankings, breaking into the top-30 after four straight wins. Oregon will face off against California on Friday afternoon prior to taking on Stanford.
24 hours later, the Cardinal welcomes Texas (5-3) to The Farm for a non-league contest. The Longhorns have lost three of their last four overall, however the setbacks have come at the hands of No. 8 Miami, No. 4 Florida and No. 2 Notre Dame. Not to mention, all three were played on the road.
In this week's ITA rankings, Stanford checks in at No. 4. Florida moves up to No. 1, Notre Dame is No. 2, Georgia is No. 3 and Northwestern rounds out the top five.
Individually, junior Celia Durkin is ranked No. 8 and sophomore Jessica Nguyen comes in at No. 9. Four other players are ranked in the top-80: senior Theresa Logar (14), senior Anne Yelsey (26), junior Whitney Deason (29) and freshman Lindsay Burdette (75).
Despite suffering her first loss since Nov. 3 on Friday against Pepperdine, Nguyen's 17 total victories are a team-best. Three different players (Burdette, Logar, Durkin) have posted at least 14 wins.
Two doubles squads are ranked. Durkin and Nguyen are 7-2 overall and check in at No. 18 while Burdette and Yelsey are now 5-4 overall and sit at No. 41.
