The USC women's golf team, ranked No. 6 in the most recent Golfweek.com Top 25, continues the 2006-2007 spring schedule at the 14th Annual Texas A&M 'Mo'Morial Invitational Friday through Sunday (March 9-11) at the Traditions G.C. in Bryan, Texas.
The 15-team field features seven teams ranked among Golfweek.com's Top 25, including No. 2 Arizona State, USC, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 15 UCLA, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 22 Denver and No. 25 South Carolina. The rest of the field includes Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas-El Paso, Missouri, Tulsa and Princeton.
The tournament will consist of 18 holes each day. Plays starts at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (CST).
USC is led by junior Paola Moreno, who is ranked No. 16 in the country by Golfweek.com. She boasts a team-best 73.67 stroke average and has finished among the top 17 in each tournament this year, including two in the top 7 and three other times in the top 11. She fired a season-low 69 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Junior two-time All-American and 2006 defending NCAA individual champion Dewi Claire Schreefel, ranked No. 53, is coming off her best outing of the season, a tie for second at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. In five starts, she is averaging 74.73 per round with three top 20 performances.
Spring semester transfer freshman Belen Mozo made her debut at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge earlier in February and led the team with a tie for eighth place, firing a three-day 221. She followed it up with a tie for 20th at the Arizona Wildcat. Mozo is coming off a highly successful 2006 amateur season. She won the 2006 Girls' British Open Amateur Championship and the British Ladies Open Amateur Championships, making her the first woman to win both titles in the same year since 1972. She also won the International European Ladies Amateur Championship.
Senior Catalina Marin, ranked No. 67, is averaging 75.50 and has a pair of top 10 finishes while fellow senior Veronica Felibert has a stroke average of 76.47. She has already won one tourney this season (the Topy Cup in Japan) and has another top 20 finish.
