March 9, 2007
Carson, Calif. - The UCLA men's soccer team defeated Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, 2-1, in a spring season exhibition game on Friday at The Home Depot Center.
Freshman forward David Estrada scored the game's first goal in the 18th minute on a header from a Sal Zizzo cross. A few minutes later, Zizzo was taken down in the penalty area, and freshman midfielder Michael Stephens successfully converted the ensuing penalty kick to give UCLA a 2-0 lead. Chicago scored near the end of the first half to cut UCLA's lead in half, but the Bruins held on for the win.
UCLA's next spring action will be on April 13 vs. the Los Angeles Galaxy at The Home Depot Center. The Bruins' previously scheduled games at Cal State Fullerton on Mar. 10 have been cancelled.
