Box Score

Sunnyvale - Sophomore Lauren Frankiewicz recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts to lead No. 22 California to a 5-3 win over Eastern Illinois in the second day of the NIST hosted by San Jose State on Saturday. The Golden Bears take on Iowa State later today.

Cal produced its first run in the top of the first inning when Gina Leomiti's sacrifice fly to right field scored Erika Racklin, who hit a one-out single, from third base.

The Bears tacked on another run to take a 2-0 advantage in the second after Alex Sutton punched a single to center field to plate Taylor Kelly, who also hit a one-out single.

Cal widened the gap in the third inning courtesy of a two-run home run from Bernice Masaniai to put the Bears up 4-0. With Leomiti on first (hit by a pitch), Masaniai turned on Kathleen Jacoby's offering over the center field wall.

Eastern Illinois manufactured its first run of the contest in the bottom half of the third when Sandyn Short connected for a double to score Sarah Coppert, trimming the Cal lead to 4-1.

The Panthers added another run in the fourth on a fielder's choice, before Cal pushed its lead up to 5-2 in the sixth when Sutton's sacrifice fly to left field scored Kelly.

Lauren Frankiewicz went the distance to collect her sixth win in the circle after allowing three runs on six hits with a season-high 10 strikeouts, two shy of her career-high of 12.

Racklin went 3-for-4, while Kelly scored two runs.
