Moreno Hole In One Helps Her To Lead At Texas A&M 'Mo'Morial Invitational
March 10, 2007
Junior Paola Moreno fired a 2-under 70, including a hole in one on the 16th hole, to lead improved Trojan play across the board as USC's women's golf team sat in second place, just two shots back of the lead, at the 14th Annual Texas A&M 'Mo'Morial Invitational on Saturday (March 10) at the Traditions G.C. in Bryan, Texas.
No. 6 USC fired a second-round low 293 for a two-day 600 (+24), shaving off half of Arizona State's first-day lead on the Trojans. The Sun Devils sit at 598 while Denver holds third at 608.
All five Trojans carded lower scores in the second round than in the first.
Moreno, USC's top ranked golfer and most consistent this season, holds a one-stroke lead in the individual title battle with a 144 (E). Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist is one back. Moreno's ace came on the par-3, 143-yard 16th hole. She had a par on the hole in the first round.
Junior Dewi Claire Schreefel, who struggled to an 82 on Friday, cropped eight shots off the total for a second-round 74 for a two-round 156 (+12), tied for 25th. Joining her there is senior Veronica Felibert, who dropped from an 80 to a 76.
Final round play begins at 8:30 a.m. (CST). on Sunday.
