Men's Golf Finishes 12th At Southern Highlands Collegiate

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The 31st-ranked Washington men's golf team shot its best round of the tournament - 10-over 298 - in Sunday's final round to finish 12th overall at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Huskies, competing against one of the toughest fields it will see all season, moved up one spot in the team standings after each round of the tournament. UW finished at 38-over 902 overall and placed higher than No. 23 Texas (13th, 40-over 904), No. 19 Wake Forest (14th, 50-over 914).

No. 13 UCLA took home the team title by three strokes at 10-over 874. The Bruins were the only team to shoot under par in the final round, carding a 1-under 874 over the final 18 holes. No. 3 Georgia finished second (13-over 877) and No. 29 Arizona finished third (21-over 885). UCLA's Lucas Lee took home medalist honors shooting 3-under 213.

Senior Alex Prugh led the way for the Huskies, carding his best round of the event in Sunday's final round - a 2-over 74 - to tie for 28th overall (8-over 224). Prugh sank three birdies and six bogeys with all three birdies coming in a span of four holes (3-6).

Fellow senior Erik Olson finished two strokes behind Prugh in a tie for 34th, shooting 10-over 226 for the tournament after carding a 3-over 75 in the final round. Other Washington results included junior Zach Bixler tying for 39th (11-over 227), freshman Nick Taylor tying for 45th (13-over 229) and sophomore John Wise tying for 56th (16-over 232). Wise matched Prugh for carding the best Husky round of the day, carding a 2-over 74 as well.

Washington will next travel to Northern California for the Western Intercollegiate, March 19-20, at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
