Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten At Home, Downs Texas 5-2

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 4 Stanford remained unbeaten at home and extended its winning streak to eight overall with a 5-2 non-conference victory over No. 34 Texas on Sunday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.

Stanford (11-1, 1-0 Pac-10) will experience a 14-day break before hosting Cal Poly on Mar. 25. Texas (5-4, 3-0 Big 12) drops its first match on a three-game West Coast swing that includes contests at California and USC.

The Cardinal, now 7-0 at home, secured the doubles point thanks to victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions. After Stanford's top tandem of Lindsay Burdette and Anne Yelsey claimed an 8-4 win, the No. 2 team of Celia Durkin and Lejla Hodzic clinched a 1-0 lead following an 8-3 victory.

Texas evened the match at 1-1 after Ristine Olson posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Megan Doheny at the No. 6 spot.

Then came four straight wins for the Cardinal, ultimately deciding the match. Burdette won her 10th match in a row and gave Stanford a 2-1 advantage following a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sarah Lancaster at the No. 4 spot.

Theresa Logar bested Vanja Corovic 6-1, 6-4 in a battle at No. 1 singles to make it 3-1 before Durkin's 7-5, 6-2 decision at the No. 2 spot secured the victory for Stanford.

Whitney Deason added a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 5, while Lejla Hodzic was outlasted 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
