Hie Ties For 6th At 2007 General Jim Hackler Championship
March 12, 2007
A week after winning his first collegiate tournament, freshman Rory Hie again led the No. 8 USC men's golf team, this time with a tie for sixth place, to help Troy to a third place finish at the 2007 General Jim Hackler Championship sponsored by Chanticleer Holdings at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in Murells Inlet, S.C., on Monday (March 12).
USC posted its fifth top 3 finish of the season in seven outings with a three-round 851 (-13). Lamar University turned in a tournament record 838 (-26) to win the event while host No. 6 Coastal Carolina took second with 848 (-16). In a strong field, 14 of the 18 teams competing appeared in the NCAA Regional or NCAA Championships last year.
Hie started the day tied for 14th, but fired a 3-under 69 to move up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth at 212 (-4). The winner of the USC Collegiate Invitational earlier in the week, Hie was 3-under on the front nine and par the rest of the way to post his fifth sub-70 outing in the last nine rounds.
Sophomore Tom Glissmeyer entered the final round tied for the lead, but a final round 78 dropped him off the pace. Still, he finished tied for eighth at 213 (-3), good for his third top 10 finish of the season.
Freshman Jamie Lovemark closed with a 75 (+3) to tie for 18th at 216 (E), marking his seventh top 20 finish of the season in as many tries.
Joining him tied for 18th was senior Joshua Wooding, who finished play with a final round of 74 (+2) for his third top 20 finish of the year.
Senior Jordan Nasser rounded out USC's group with Troy's second lowest round of the afternoon, a 1-over 73 that left him tied for 30th at 219 (+3). It was his fourth top 30 finish of the season.
