Drawing nearly 1,000 athletes and countless spectators each year, the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic is one of the most anticipated rowing events on the West Coast. In addition to Stanford University, visiting teams include, George Washington, Notre Dame, Central Florida, Princeton, Oregon State, Loyola, Washington, Louisville, Tennessee, Virginia, Trinity College, California, Wisconsin, UCLA, Washington State, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Sonoma State and UC Davis. Athletes will compete in two days of Henley style racing, a one-on-one or a two-boat race used for competition at the famous Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
'The Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic offers a unique opportunity to bring together the nation's top teams in a display of inspiring competition,' said Craig Amerkhanian, Stanford director of rowing and head men's coach. 'Participating athletes are grateful for the chance to race alongside such highly regarded teams on one of the best racing courses in the country.'
'Windermere Real Estate has a rich heritage of supporting collegiate crew racing and is honored to sponsor this event for the fifth consecutive year,' said Gretchen Pearson, President of Windermere Real Estate in Northern California. 'The regatta offers a unique opportunity for our agents to interact with top collegiate rowers from around the country while celebrating alongside countless fans from the Bay Area neighborhoods we serve.'
Windermere's heritage of supporting collegiate crew racing began over 20 years ago when the company sponsored the first annual Windermere Cup regatta in Seattle. Held in partnership with the University of Washington, the Windermere Cup has become one of the largest free community events in Seattle, welcoming both national and international crew teams for exciting competition and commencing the official opening day of boating season for the waters of the Puget Sound. In 2003, Windermere expanded it's involvement with the sport and launched, in conjunction with Stanford University, the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic at Redwood Shores.
