UCLA Captures Regular Season Crown
Oregon Claims Pac-10 Tournament Title
The Pac-10 sends a league record-tying six teams to the NCAA Tournament, matching the same number of teams selected for the 2001-02 Tournament ... The UCLA Bruins successfully defended their Pac-10 regular season title and will enter the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed. It's the 29th league title all-time for the Bruins, and their ninth Pac-10 title since the league expanded to 10 teams in 1979 ... OREGON, which won its second Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament championship, joins WASHINGTON STATE as No. 3 seeds. Washington State is making its fifth NCAA appearance, and first since 1994 ... USC grabs the No. 5 seed, followed by ARIZONA at No. 8 for the second year in a row, and No. 11 STANFORD ... Eight of the 10 Pac-10 institutions have appeared in the NCAA Tournament over the last two years.

PAC-10 AND THE NCAA TOURNAMENT... With six teams selected for the NCAA Tournament, the Pac-10 is sending four or more teams into the Tournament for the 13th time in 14 years... Eight of the 10 Pac-10 institutions have appeared in the NCAA Tournament over the previous two years... Over the last six NCAA Tournaments, the Pac-10 has posted a 42-27 (.609) record and has had 12 teams reach the Sweet Sixteen... With 15 national titles, the Pac-10 owns more NCAA basketball titles than any other conference. Five different Pac-10 schools have captured the national title.
ARIZONA continues its string of consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament with its 23rd consecutive appearance, the nation's longest active streak... Arizona has a 41-24 record (.631) in the NCAA Tournament, with four trips to the Final Four, including a national title in 1997... The Wildcats are 39-21 (.650) under coach Lute Olson in Tournament play. Olson's career record in postseason play is 46-27 (.630)... For the second consecutive season, Arizona is seeded No. 8... Arizona is 5-5 all-time vs. Purdue. The two last met during the 2002 season with Arizona winning 79-66 at the Wooden Classic. Olson is 10-13 all-time vs. Purdue. All-time, Arizona is 1-1 vs. Florida and 2-0 vs. Jackson State.
OREGON is making its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance and own the NCAA's first basketball championship as it collected the title in 1939... Oregon is 9-7 (.563) all-time in the NCAA Tournament... Coach Ernie Kent is 3-4 (.429) all-time in NCAA Tournament action... Oregon is 1-0 vs. Miami, Ohio, 1-0 vs. Winthrop and 2-2 vs. Notre Dame.
STANFORD is making its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cardinal, 19-13 (.594) all-time in NCAA play and captured the NCAA crown in 1942... Coach Trent Johnson is 2-2 (.500) all-time in NCAA Tournament action... Stanford is 0-1 vs. Louisville, having last met during the 2004-05 season. The Cardinal are 1-0 vs. Texas A&M and 0-2 vs. Pennsylvania.
UCLA is making its 41st NCAA Tournament appearance. UCLA has earned the No. 2 seed for the second straight NCAA Tournament... The Bruins have posted an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 90-33 (.732) with a record 11 national titles... Coach Ben Howland is 9-5 all-time in the Tournament, having guided three different schools (UCLA, Pittsburgh and Northern Arizona) into the bracket... The Bruins are 2-2 against non-conference opponents that are among the NCAA Tournament field... UCLA is 1-0 all-time vs. Weber State (coach Ben Howland's alma mater). The Bruins are 5-6 all-time against Indiana, and 1-1 vs. Gonzaga.
USC is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance and has posted a record of 9-14 (.391) all-time in the Tournament... Coach Tim Floyd is 4-5 (.444) all-time in NCAA Tournament action... USC is 2-0 vs. Arkansas, and have posted records of 4-4 vs. Texas and 3-1 vs. New Mexico State.
WASHINGTON STATE is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 1994. The Cougars are 3-4 (.429) all-time in the Tournament... Coach Tony Bennett is making his first NCAA Tournament appearance as a head coach... Washington State is 1-0 vs. Oral Roberts, and have never played either Vanderbilt or George Washington.
Pac-10 freshmen made quite an impact this season. Four freshmen are among the league's top 12 scorers - California's Ryan Anderson (16.3 ppg/5th), Arizona's Chase Budinger (15.6 ppg/7th), Washington's Spencer Hawes (14.9 ppg/10th) and Oregon's Tajuan Porter (14.4 ppg/12th). Six freshman are among the top 16 in rebounding - USC's Taj Gibson (8.4 rpg/4th), Anderson (8.2 rpg/5th), Hawes (6.4 rpg/9th), Stanford's Brook Lopez (6.0 rpg/12th), Budinger (5.8 rpg/14th), Stanford's Robin Lopez (5.6 rpg/16th). Porter leads the league in free throw percentage (.917) and three-point field goals (95). Gibson leads the league in field goal percentage (.559). Robin Lopez leads the Pac-10 in blocked shots (72/2.40 bpg), followed in order by brother Brook (1.80 bpg), Gibson (1.79 bpg) and Hawes (1.74 bpg)... Four freshmen earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors during the year (Budinger - Nov. 20, Hawes - Dec. 26, B. Lopez - Jan. 29, Porter - Feb. 26).
ARIZONA has now posted a winning record in Pac-10 play for the 23rd consecutive season... Arizona has posted 20 or more wins in each of the last 20 seasons... Freshman F Chase Budinger is the fifth Wildcat to be named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. (Sean Elliott - 1986, Mike Bibby - 1997, Michael Wright - 1999, Salim Stoudamire - 2002)... With 662 career assists, senior guard Mustafa Shakur needs two more to move into sixth on the Pac-10's all-time list, passing former Wildcat Damon Stoudamire (663 assists, 1992-95)
ARIZONA STATE has played 14 games decided by five points or less on the year, including eight in Pac-10 play... Christian Polk hit 64 three-pointers on the year, just two shy of freshmen record set by Ron Riley in 1992-93 (66)... Has held Arizona (61), Oregon (55) and California (41) to season lows in points. Only once in the last 16 games has an opponent scored more than 67 points on the Sun Devils.
CALIFORNIA has posted a school record 249 three-point baskets. The previous best was 198 three-pointers during the 2002-03 season. Six different players have collected at least 25 treys this season - Ayinde Ubaka (59), Ryan Anderson (58), Omar Wilkes (37), Jerome Randle (26), Theo Robertson (26), and Eric Vierneisel (26)... At 16.3 points per game, freshman F Ryan Anderson is the third freshman to lead Cal in scoring since 1996 (Leon Powe 15.1 ppg in 2004, Shareef Abdur-Rahim 21.1 ppg in 1996). Anderson's 269 rebounds are the most ever by a Cal freshman... The Bears set a school record from the free throw line (76.9 percent).
OREGON freshman G Tajuan Porter has set Oregon's single-season record, and Pac-10 freshman record, with 95 three-pointers... As a team, Oregon has established a Pac-10 record with 313 three-pointers... The Ducks were 16-2 at home this season, equalling the school's single-season home win total of 16 (achieved in 1937-38 and 2001-02)... Oregon is the only school in the country to have defeated three different top 10 teams this season - No. 1 UCLA, No. 10 Arizona and No. 9 Washington State... Oregon is 11-4 in games decided by eight points or less (9-4 in Pac-10 games). It was 2-14 in such contests last season... Senior G Aaron Brook leads the Pac-10 in scoring at 17.6 ppg. Oregon hasn't had a Pac-10 scoring leader since Terrell Brandon in 1991 (26.6 ppg).
OREGON STATE Guard Josh Tarver leads all Pac-10 freshmen in assists, averaging 3.84 per game (123 assists)... Senior C Kyle Jeffers posted 97 blocked shots during his career, finishing fourth on OSU's career list... Junior F Marcel Jones has posted 49 steals on the season. It's the most thefts in a season by a Beaver since Deaundra Tanner had 50 swipes during the 1997-98 season. Jones ranks fourth in the Pac-10 with 1.53 steals per game. Jones had a steal in 29 of 32 games this season, including a streak of 20 consecutive games.
STANFORD has posted a school single-season record 183 blocked shots (6.10 bpg) this year. The previous season-best of 167 rejections was established by the 1999-2000 squad. Robin (72 blocks) and Brook Lopez (45 blocks) have accounted for 117 blocks - that's more than seven other Pac-10 teams have accumulated for the season... Sophomore F Lawrence Hill had the biggest jump among Pac-10 players in scoring average from last season. As a freshman, he averaged 4.7 points per game. His scoring output increased to 15.9 ppg this season - an increase of 11.2 points per game. The next biggest jump belongs to sophomore teammate G Anthony Goods (2.7 ppg to 13.3 ppg/+10.6 points per game).
UCLA has a 20-game winning streak at Pauley Pavilion, including the last 14 Pac-10 games... The Bruins finished the 2007 home slate undefeated (16-0) for the first time since 1995 (15-0). The last time UCLA finished the home portion of its schedule with a 16-0 record was during the 1975 season... Junior G Arron Afflalo is the fifth Bruin to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year honors (Marques Johnson - 1977, David Greenwood - 1978 and 1979, Kenny Fields - 1983, Ed O'Bannon - 1995)... Sophomore G Darren Collison leads the Pac-10 in steals (68, 2.27 spg). His 68 thefts rank tied for fourth on the school's single-season list and are the most by a Bruin since Baron Davis swiped 68 during the 1999 season... UCLA has posted 25 or more wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1978 (25-3) and 1979 (25-5).
USC made its third appearance in the Pac-10 Tournament championship game. The most title game appearances by a Pac-10 team since the league returned to a postseason tournament in 2002... senior G Lodrick Stewart has set a USC career record with 225 career three-pointers. Stewart passed former Trojan Brandon Granville who collected 218 treys from 1999-2002... With 1,068 career points, junior G Gabe Pruitt joins teammates Stewart (1,433 points) and junior F Nick Young (1,429 points) with 1,000 career points... The Trojans have posted their 16th 20-win season.
WASHINGTON sophomore F Jon Brockman leads the Pac-10 in double-doubles (15) and rebounding (9.6 rpg)... Sophomore G Justin Dentmon became the ninth player in school history with two 100-assist seasons... Junior G Ryan Appleby became the only Husky ever to produce two 70 three-point field goal seasons. His two-year total of 154 three-pointers ranks third on the school's all-time list behind Deon Luton (212, 1997-2000) and Curtis Allen (151, 2001-04)... The Huskies swept USC and UCLA at home for the third consecutive season... Washington was 17-2 at home this season, and have posted a 60-7 (.896) over the last four seasons.
WASHINGTON STATE earned its 25th win this season, tied for second most in school history. The Cougars won 26 games in 1940-41, had 25 wins in 1916-17... The Cougars second-place finish matched their best finish in the Pac-10 in school history (1982-83)... Sophomore G Taylor Rochestie is averaging 17.3 points over the last three games. He's scored 52 of his 141 season point total (36.9 percent) in the last three contests... Junior G Kyle Weaver became the first player in Pac-10 history to record the combination of 300 points, 125 assists, 125 rebounds, 50 steals and 35 blocked shots in a season... Washington State drew 104,525 fans this season. Second best attendance total in Friel Court history. The Cougars drew 110,206 fans during the 1980 season.
