PAC-10 WINS THE BATTLE AGAINST OTHER CONFERENCES

As a Conference, the Pac-10 boasts a .636 winning percentage against other conferences this season, posting a record of 100-57. Leading the way for the Pac is OREGON STATE has won their last six games. The Beavers look to continue the streak when they host San Francisco ... Already posting 15 wins this season is ARIZONA, who finishes out its tour of the Hawaiian islands this week as the when it faces Hawaii-Hilo ... USC moved up the charts last week after taking the series, 2-1, against Pac-10 foe STANFORD. The Trojans only game of the week is against Portland, while the Cardinal enjoy a break in the action ... ARIZONA STATE has no time to rest if it plans to take the Conference title. The Sun Devils will play five games in the next six days when they welcome Kansas State and Maine to Tempe ... WASHINGTON STATE hosts Illinois-Chicago for a three game series on the Palouse ... Cross-state rival WASHINGTON travels to the Golden State to take on Cal State Northridge after posting five wins at home last week ... PAC-10 NOTES

• ARIZONA (15-6, 0-0): Last week, Arizona snapped a three-week streak of losing on Sunday when the Wildcats beat Hawaii, 3-1, marking their fifth three-game series of the season ... Arizona continues their tour of the islands as they head to the Big Island to take on Hawaii-Hilo ... In addition to former Wildcat Kris Sanchez playing for Hawaii, there are a couple of other Hawaii - Arizona connections ... Arizona assistant coach Mark Wasikowski began his collegiate playing career at Hawaii before transferring to Rancho Santiago CC and Pepperdine ... Current Rainbow pitcher Cameron Wheeler played the last two seasons at Yavapai Community College in Prescott where Arizona coach Jeff Casper was an assistant for the same two years ... In back-to-back weekends Arizona took on two of the three schools it has defeated in the national championship game in Omaha. The other weekend it was Eastern Michigan, who Arizona defeated to win the 1976 title. This last weekend it was Hawaii, who fell to the Cats in the 1980 title game.

• ARIZONA STATE (13-7 0-0): Despite Eric Sogard's two homer game on Friday night, the Devils continue to make bunting a big part of their offensive arsenal. ASU has recorded 19 bunt singles this season, including nine from Andrew Romine ... Sogard leads the team with his .714 (5-7) bunting average, while the team as a whole has a .559 (19-34) bunting average. The team has also successfully converted ten sacrifice bunts ... Of ASU's seven losses this season, six have come at the hands of teams ranked in the Top 25, including one to Vanderbilt, who is No. 1 in both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball polls. Their only loss to an unranked team was to Missouri, who advanced to a Super Regional in 2006 ... According to BoydsWorld.com, Arizona State has an RPI of 9, and has already faced three teams rated in the top 10 in RPI (Auburn, Long Beach State and Vanderbilt) ... Also, four of the seven losses have been by one run, including an extra inning game with Vanderbilt.

• CALIFORNIA (9-11, 0-0): Sophomore right-hander Matt Gorgen has been impressive as the Bears' closer this season, earning three saves and recording 25 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Cal ended up tied for the tournament title at the Cardinal Classic as Louisville lost to Kent State, 4-2 in 10 innings in the final tournament game on Sunday ... Last week, sophomore Tyson Ross was dominant in the Bears' 8-0 shutout of Kent State, throwing 8.0 innings and allowing only three hits, with no walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts. On the year, he is 2-3, but owns a 1.65 ERA, has a complete game and leads Cal with 39 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. Ross has gone at least 6.0 innings in all of his six outings this season, including throwing at 7.0 innings in five of his six starts ... Leading the offensive front for the Bears is David Cooper who went 5-for-9 (.556) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI last week. On the year, Cooper leads Cal with a .390 average, seven doubles, six home runs and 26 RBI.

• OREGON STATE (17-3, 0-0): After earning the win against Evansville on March 10, OSU righthander Daniel Turpen has a 5-0 record this season and is 9-0 in his career ... Oregon State first baseman Jordan Lennerton quickly endeared himself to the home fans. In his first at-bat at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, he drove a 3-run homer to left-centerfield in a 9-2 win over Evansville; Lennerton finished the game 3-for-4 with the homer and 2 runs scored ... One big question that may followers of college baseball had about Oregon State in 2007 was how the Beavers' pitching staff would perform after losing several standouts from the 2006 national championship team. Through 20 games, OSU had allowed 3 or fewer runs 12 times ... Oregon State beat Evansville 9-2 in the Beavers' home-opener on March 8; that puts OSU's all-time record in home-openers at 79-19. OSU has won 18 of its last 20 home-openers and 33 of its last 36 ... After sweeping Evansville from March 8-10, Oregon State has an 8-game home winning streak over the past 2 seasons. Since the start of the 2005 season, OSU has a record of 53-9 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

• STANFORD (11-8, 0-0): Stanford's season-best eight-game win streak was snapped in a 13-5 non-conference loss at Santa Clara on Tuesday, March 6. The eight-game run was the longest since the 2004 club also won eight straight from March 23 - April 3, 2004 ... The team's nine-game home win streak was snapped in the Cardinal's next game versus USC at Sunken Diamond on March 9. ... The nine-game home win streak had been the longest since the 2004 club won 12 straight home contests from April 10 - May 18, 2004 . Stanford's 9-0 home start was also its best since the 1993 club began the season 10-0 at Sunken Diamond ... After a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to USC on Saturday, Stanford has now lost three in a row to equal its longest slide of the season.

• UCLA (8-9, 0-0): The Bruins have hit at a .308 clip in nine home games this season, collecting four home runs, 18 doubles and a .417 on-base percentage. UCLA's pitching staff has also fared well at home, posting a 3.78 ERA and .247 opponent batting average with 62 strikeouts in 81.0 innings pitched ... Among UCLA's hitting leaders at Jackie Robinson Stadium this season include Brandon Crawford, Alden Carrithers and Will Penniall ... Crawford is hitting .472 (17-for-26) with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored at home, and Carrithers has collected a .371 average with 10 runs scored in nine home starts at second base ... Penniall is hitting at a .368 clip in eight home games ... Right-hander Tyson Brummett leads the staff with a 1.06 home ERA in 17.0 innings pitched (two complete games, 15 strikeouts, one walk) ... Sophomore catcher Ryan Babineau has shown off his arm through UCLA's first 17 games. Babineau has thrown out 20 of 51 attempted base stealers in his career at UCLA (39.2 percent) and has not committed an error in 566 career chances (498 putouts, 68 assists).

• USC (15-9, 0-0): In USC's 24 games so far this season, 12 of them have been decided by two runs or less. USC is 7-1 in one-run games and 2-2 in two-run games ... This week, the Trojans face Portland and Pepperdine. The March 14th game against Portland will be the 1,000th game played at Dedeaux Field since its inception in 1974 ... The 2007 squad has 34 stolen bases on the season and is on pace to set the highest team total in five seasons. The 2004 team had 44 stolen bases with the 2002 team having the highest number (67) in the past five seasons. A total of 12 different players have at least one stolen base this season ... A total of 18 different position players have made at least one start this season. Chad Kreuter and his coaching staff have the flexibility to use different lineups against a left-handed or right-handed starter ... On the mound, 14 Trojan pitchers have made at least one appearance in 2007.

• WASHINGTON (7-8, 0-0): After starting the year 1-6, the Huskies have won six of their last eight games, including five in a row ... Over the five-game winning streak, Washington has allowed only 11 runs on 34 hits, an average of about two runs and seven hits per game ... After making two starts, junior lefty Nick Hagadone has worked out of the bullpen in his last four appearances. Over those four, he's allowed just two hits and no runs over 8.0 innings, walking two and striking out 10 ... Due in part to injuries to other players, junior catcher Joey Dunn has caught all but three innings of the Huskies' 15 games this year ... In two starts at Husky Ballpark, sophomore RHP Jorden Merry is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Over 14.1 innings at home, he's allowed only five hits and five walks while striking out 10.

• WASHINGTON STATE (9-6, 0-0): Senior third baseman Jeff Miller batted .350 last week in five games, going 7-for-20 with three home runs, eight RBIs, 5 runs scored and a double. He also had a slugging percentage of .850, on-base percentage of .409 and fielded 1.000, completing all 13 opportunities. Miller hit a first-inning grand slam, then added a double and single in the Cougars final game against San Jose State. For the season he is hitting .333, leading the Cougars with 20 hits, four home runs and 20 RBIs ... Last week during the Banana Belt, sophomore Ross Humes, who worked a perfect ninth, combined with freshman Connor Lambert to throw the combined shutout on a night when temperatures reached the low 30's. This last week, Humes made two appearances earning saves in both outings while allowing just one single, not walks, five strikeouts with a 0.00 ERA. For the season Humes is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in 14.0 innings with four saves.
