A QUICK LOOK AT THE 2007 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
No. 2 Stanford (First place at the Pac-10 Championships, 5-0, 4-0 Pac-10) will compete at the 2007 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships this Thursday-Saturday, March 15-17. The event will be held at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Cardinal will be looking to take the title away from the four-time defending champion Auburn. The Tigers currently ranked third, with Texas holding the top spot. The remainder of the Top 10 includes No. 4 California, No. 45Arizona, No. 6 Northwestern, No. 7 USC, No. 8 Florida, No. 9 Georgia and No. 10 Minnesota.

STANFORD IN 2006-07
No. 2 Stanford men's swimming and diving captured its 26th consecutive Pac-10 Championship on February 24 with 990.5 team points, while posting a total of six individual champions, four relay titles and 18 NCAA automatic qualifying times. Senior Ben Wildman-Tobriner was honored as the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Meet, as he posted three individual titles over the course of the competition. Cal finished second for the sixth consecutive year with 657 points, while Arizona finished 32 points behind the Golden Bears in third place (625). USC finished fourth with 511.5 points, as ASU placed fifth 372 points and Washington finished sixth (222).*In their final regular season meet of the season (2/10/07), No. 2 Stanford men's swimming defeated No. 4 Cal by a score of 169-131 at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Berkeley, CA. With the victory, the Cardinal men completed an undefeated dual meet season with a record of 5-0. *On January 27, fueled by double victories by Phillips (500 and 1650 free) and Dumais (1-meter and 3-meter diving), the second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team overpowered sixth-ranked USC, 141-95, in a Pac-10 dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. *On January 13, Wildman-Tobriner took first place honors in the 50 free and the 100 fly, and helped the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams to victory as the second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team recorded a 169-129 victory at Arizona State in a Pac-10 dual meet on Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex. *On January 12, led by double victories by Phillips (500 free, 1000 free), sophomore Nate Cass (200 breast, 200 fly) and sophomore Dwight Dumais (1-meter, 3-meter diving), the second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team posted a 129-112 victory over fifth-ranked Arizona in the Pac-10 season opener for the Cardinal on Friday afternoon at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. *For the fourth straight year, the nationally-ranked Stanford men's swimming team captured the Speedo Cup Championship at the Belmont Plaza Pool (Nov. 17-19). The Cardinal tallied 1,803.5 points over three days of the meet to beat 15 other teams including runner-up Brigham Young. BYU collected 911 points.

STANFORD MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING HISTORY
Stanford's first NCAA championship occured on March 25, 1967 at Michigan State University in East Lansing ... Stanford scored 275 points to beat runnerup USC by 15 points ... Stanford was led that year by Greg Buckingham and Dick Roth ... Buckingham captured the NCAA titles in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle ... Roth won top honors in the 200 and 400 IM ... Both athletes also were on the winning 800 free relay team ... Stanford also won the NCAA title in the 400 free relay in 1967 ... Roth, in 1964, won the Olympic gold medal in Japan as a member of the United States 400 meter medley relay team ... Buckingham won the silver medal in Mexico City in 1968 for the United States in the 200 meter IM ... Jim Laney was captain on the 1967 team which was coached by Jim Gaughran, who was head coach for 19 years (1960-61 to 1978-79) ... The oldest record in Stanford swim history remains Jeff Kostoff's time of 14:37.87 in the 1650 free in 1986 ... The oldest entry in the Stanford Top 15 is Mike Bruner who still remains 13th all-time in the 200 fly with a time of 1:45.27 which he swam in 1977.
