The Aztecs added two more runs in the eighth inning after loading the bases with two outs. Designated hitter Brian Lucas singled to center, scoring Chasse and Hanzawa before getting tagged out on a relay (center fielder to first baseman to catcher to second baseman). UCLA's Brandon Crawford skied a solo home run over the right-field wall to lead off the top of the ninth inning, cutting the Bruins' deficit to 8-2.
The Bruins and Aztecs resume the weekend series Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. UCLA left-hander Tim Murphy takes the mound Saturday against San Diego State right-hander Bruce Billings.
