SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team stretched its winning streak to six games Friday, blanking Cal State Northridge, 7-0, in the first game of a three-game series at Husky Ballpark.
The Huskies moved to .500 for the first time this season, improving their record to 8-8. The Matadors fell to 11-14 with the loss.
Husky sophomore Nick Haughan (2-2) earned the victory, limiting the Matadors to no runs on four hits over seven innings. He walked three and struck out four. Reliever Jason Erickson threw the eighth and Harrison Bishop the ninth to wrap up the shutout.
Washington jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the first. The top three Husky hitters in the order all singled, with the third of those, from third baseman Matt Hague, driving in a run. Curt Rindal followed with an RBI groundout to plate Andy Lentz with the second run.
The Huskies tacked on another run in the second on an RBI single from second baseman Bradley Boyer. In the sixth, Ty Rasmussen doubled and eventually scored on a Jake Rife groundout, increasing the UW lead to 4-0.
Washington broke the game open in the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, freshman shortstop Brian Pearl laced a double to the gap in right-center, driving in three.
Northridge starter Joe Rocchio (1-3) took the loss. Over six and two-thirds, he allowed nine hits and seven runs, though only three were earned.
The series continues with a 2:00 p.m. game Saturday and a noon start Sunday at Husky Ballpark. Live video and live stats for both games will be available at gohuskies.com.
