WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA junior Pierre Mouillon has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Mar. 12-Mar. 18, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mouillon, who hails from Le Perreux-Sur-Marne, France, notched two singles wins this past weekend at the USF Pebble Beach Collegiate Classic as the Golden Bears scored dual wins over host-school San Francisco, and Southern Methodist.
Against the Mustangs of SMU on Saturday afternoon, Mouillon defeated 43rd-ranked Alex Skrypko, 6-4, 6-3, in the top singles spot as the Bears pulled out a 4-2 win.
The next day Mouillon, currently ranked 23rd in the ITA/Fila Rankings, gave away the first set against USF's Matt Berry, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, but then rebounded to win the next two sets, 6-3, and 7-6 (5). Mouillon also contributed a win at No. 2 doubles with partner Daniel Sebescen.
Mouillon is now 21-7 in singles play this year, and has reeled off six straight victories. California (9-4) has won its past six straight right along with Mouillon. The 35th-ranked Golden Bears visit Honolulu, Hawai'i this week for three big non-conference matches in three days. Cal faces off against San Diego State (Mar. 24), No. 20 Pepperdine (Mar. 25) and Hawai'i (Mar. 26) in what will be its last duals before Pac-10 play.
