Men's Golf in Seventh Place at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Junior Michael Jensen and senior Michael Wilson led the California men's golf team to seventh place after day one of the 61st annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course on Monday. Jensen opened the day with a first-round 67 and finished at 141 in a tie for 11th place, while Wilson fired an even-par 70 in the second round to finish in a tie for 24th with a 143.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with final results being available by late afternoon.
Purdue leads the event with a 562 (+2), followed by Long Beach State at 564. Fresno State (566) is in third place while Washington (573) and Hawaii (574) round out the top five. The Bears have a 576 after two rounds.
Jensen was red-hot through the opening round, shooting a 33-34 to finish at a 67, tied for the second-best round of the day in the tournament. Wilson, meanwhile, turned in a strong second-round performance, shooting an even par 70 to climb into a tie for 24th place.
Sophomore George Gandranata opened the day with a 71, but slipped to a second round 76 to finish at 147, tied for 43rd overall. Freshmen Andrey Mindirgasov and Evan Derian were both tied for 52nd overall at 149.
