March 20, 2007
BERKELEY - Pierre Mouillon of the California men's tennis team has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for March 12-18, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced yesterday.
Mouillon, currently ranked No. 23 in the ITA singles rankings, had two singles wins on the No. 1 court in the USF Pebble Beach Collegiate Classic as the Golden Bears notched victories over USF and SMU this past weekend.
Saturday against SMU, Mouillon defeated Alex Skrypko, 6-4, 6-3. The next day, Mouillon lost the first set to USF's Matt Berry, 6-1, but came back to win the next sets 6-3 and 7-6. Mouillon and Daniel Sebescen also recorded a doubles victory against the Dons.
On the year, Mouillon is 21-7 in singles play and is currently on a six-match winning streak. He is also 9-3 right now in the dual season. This is Mouillon's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and California's fourth all-time.
California travels to Honolulu, Hawai'i this week for three non-conferences matches. Cal faces San Diego State, No. 20 Pepperdine, and Hawai'i in its last dual matches before Pac-10 play begins.
