Benz Named Pac-10 All-Academic First Team

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State senior Kate Benz was named to the 2007 Pacific-10 Women's Basketball All-Academic First Team, conference commissioner Tom Hansen, announced Friday.

It marks the third consecutive year Benz has garnered this accolade. Benz carries a 3.82 grade point average as a double major in communications and history. The Portland, Ore. native earned the WSU all-time rebounding crown as she finished her career with 899 rebounds. Benz became the first Cougar to lead the Pac-10 in rebounding when she accomplished the feat in 2005 and 2006 and averaged eight rebounds per game throughout her career. She also ended with 1,000 points and finished in 11th place in school history.

WSU senior Adriane Ferguson, junior Dani Montgomery, sophomores Katie Appleton and Amanda DuRocher earned Honorable Mention all-academic respectively.

To be nominated for the Pac-10 all-academic teams a student-athlete must show excellence in the classroom with a 3.0 grade point average or higher and must be a starter or significant contributor for their team.
