Oregon Duck Invitational Up Next For Men's Golf
March 23, 2007
SEATTLE -- The 30th-ranked Washington men's golf team will travel to the Willamette Valley early next week to compete in the Oregon Duck Invitational, Monday, March 26 through Tuesday, March 27, at the Eugene Country Club.
The tournament will include 36 holes to be played on Monday with the final 18 holes played on Tuesday. Shotgun start times for both days begin at 8 a.m. PT. The event will be an early preview of next month's Pac-10 Championships, with Oregon hosting this year's conference tournament on the same course, April 23-25.
The 12-team field includes all 10 Pac-10 teams, along with Pacific and San Diego State. The tournament format features six-player teams with the low four scores counting to the team total for each 18-hole round.
Washington's lineup will include sophomore John Wise, senior Alex Prugh, sophomore Chris Killmer, senior Erik Olson, sophomore Kellen Eakin and freshman Nick Taylor. Eakin will be playing in his first varsity tournament of the spring and is coming off a second-place finish for the UW JV team at the Washington National Winter Championships. Prugh leads the Huskies with 71.71 stroke average, followed by Wise at 72.20. Wise was Washington's top finisher in its last tournament, tying for 15th at the Western Intercollegiate.
The Huskies won the 2005 Oregon Duck Invitational - the last time it was played at the Eugene Country Club. Washington also claimed the tournament title at this event in 1997 and 1991.
The 2006 Oregon Duck Invitational was held at the Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore. Last year, the Huskies only had individuals competing in the tournament with then-sophomore Joe Panzeri sharing medalist honors with Washington State's Ryan Witz.
