Bears Lose a Close One To San Diego State

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The California men's tennis team dropped its second match in the Aloha Invitational on Sunday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears fell to San Diego State, 4-3. Cal lost to No. 15 Pepperdine the day before to start the weekend.
The Bears (9-6) lost the doubles point at the beginning of the day. Cal's No. 1 duo of seniors Tyler Browne and John Pettit fell to 17th-ranked Markus Dickhardt and Christian Groh, 8-5. Senior Daniel Sebescen and junior Pierre Mouillon lost to Juan Gomez and Billy Timu, 8-6.
In singles, the Bears picked up three wins. Junior Ken Nakahara improved his winning streak to eight when he knocked off Robert Sabo, 6-2, 6-4. On the No. 2 court, Browne handled Groh, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Eoin Heavey notched the third win for Cal in a three-set victory over Anthony Gomez, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
The Bears will try to earn their 10th victory of the season and salvage one win in the Aloha Invitational when they square off against Hawaii, Monday afternoon at 10 a.m. (HT).
