WSU Swimming Concludes Second Day at U.S. Spring Nationals

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Washington State senior Erin McCleave placed seventh overall in the finals of the 800m freestyle at the 2007 U.S. Spring National Championships Wednesday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y. The senior finished with a final time of 8:59.91 after advancing Tuesday with a preliminary time of 8:46.95.
McCleave also placed 28th in the 100m freestyle earlier Wednesday with a time of 58.47. Junior Bryn Mooney swam in her first event of the competition, turning in a time of 58.47 in the 100m freestyle. Shawna Keller and Elyse Peterson placed 54th and 33rd, respectively, in the 200m breaststroke. Peterson finished with a time of 2:42.79 while Keller turned in a time of 2:48.34.
Afton Pickett finished 32nd in the preliminaries of the 200m backstroke (2:23.12). In the 200m butterfly, freshman Michaela Ahlin turned in a time of 2:17.12 to finish in 13th place and advance to the finals. Senior Kayli Changstrom earned a time of 2:23.28 in the same event to place 43rd.
Ahlin finished seventh overall in the 'B' finals of the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:18.38.
The U.S. Spring National Championships continue Thursday beginning with the 200m freestyle, an event that will feature WSU's Michaela Ahlin and Erin McCleave. Kayli Changstrom will swim the 400m individual medley. As a team, WSU will compete in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay event.
