Eleventh-Ranked Bruins to Compete at PING/ASU Invitational This Weekend

The 11th-ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to the annual PING/ASU Invitational, Mar. 30-Apr.1 at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ.
The par 72 golf course measures 6,230 yards. The 17-team field includes 10 teams ranked in the Top 25, including Pac-10 powers Arizona State (No.2), USC (No. 6), Stanford (No. 9), Arizona (No. 10) and the Bruins. UCLA, which has won this event twice, is the defending champion.
'We are ready to get started this Spring at ASU,' said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. 'It is a great tournament, and one that we have been fortunate enough to win twice in the past three years. Karsten Golf Course is one of our favorite venues.'
At their last event, the Bruins recorded one of their best results of the season, tying for third place at the Texas A&M 'Mo' Morial, Mar. 11. Three players finished among the Top 15, led by senior Hannah Jun, who placed fourth.
'We've been playing a lot of golf since finals ended and the team looks good,' Forsyth continued. 'The field this week is strong, so we're excited to get out there and play well.'
Jun, ranked 22nd nationally, leads the team in scoring average (73.6) and has finished in the Top 10 in her last three events. Her five Top 20 finishes also is a team leader.
Sophomore Tiffany Joh recorded her best finish of the Spring, tying for 14th in Texas. She leads the team with seven rounds under par and six rounds under 70. She ranks 26th nationally.
Freshman Sydnee Michaels recorded her first Top 20 finish (T12) in 2007 and her second of the season. Her 54-hole total included an even par 72 in the second round -- her best score of the Spring season.
Sophomore Ryann O'Toole tied for 26th in Texas, her best result of the 2007 season. She boasts three rounds under par and two rounds under 70. At the Las Vegas Collegiate, she finished seventh to lead the team and record her first career Top 10 result.
Junior Maiya Tanaka completes the fivesome and will make her third collegiate start at Arizona.
