Cardinal Post Three NCAA Regional Qualifying Marks At Stanford Invitational

It was a very successful first day at the Stanford Invitational held at Cobb Track and Angell Field. The Cardinal recorded three NCAA Regional Qualifying marks as well as a first place finish during the competition. Overall, there were 99 NCAA Regional Qualifying marks recorded by collegiate competitors, along with two meet records set in the high school division.

For the men in the 800 meter it was Michael Garcia recording an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 1:49.49 to finish fourth in the event. In the 110 meter hurdle prelims it was Myles Bradley winning his heat and qualifying for the finals in sixth place overall with his time of 14.45. In the 800 meter 'B' Section run, Lauren Jespersen took home second place with his time of 1:51.88, while Jacob Evans finished fourth posting a 1:52.07, Rolf Steier finished 24 with a time of 1:53.75, Alex Greenburg placed 26 with a 1:54.15, Justin Marpole-Bird took 35 in a time of 1:55.05, Sean Drake recorded a 37 place finish with a 1:55.23, and Chris Hadley finished 50 in a time of 2:02.09. In the hammer throw, it was Mark Kogan earning 13 place with his mark of 157-04 (47.97m). Garrett Heath took 21 place in the event as he ran a time of 1:51.75, while Elliot Luscombe placed 26 with a 1:53.30 and Justin Reed finished 33 in a time of 1:56.51. Next up for Stanford was the pole vault 'B' Section where Ben Dickens posted a fourth place finish with his height of 15-07 (4.75m), while Ben Sheehan recorded a height of 14-05 ¼ (4.40m) to take tenth place. After a thirty minute break, the men began with the 3000 meter steeplechase where Chris Mocko earned seventh place in his heat with a time of 9:11.69.

For the women in the top section of the 800 meter run there were 18 collegiate runners earning an NCAA Regional qualifying time. Arianna Lambie was the highest Cardinal finisher as she posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 2:08.23 to take eighth place. Alicia Follmar took 16 for Stanford in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 2:09.08, while Kaylin Pennington (2:09.91), Claire Cormier (2:10.35), Lauren Centrowitz (2:10.59), and Amanda Trotter (2:11.02) finished 21, 22, 27 and 29, respectively. In the long jump 'B' section, Lauren Stewart took home the top spot as she recorded a distance of 19-00.5 (5.80m). The 100 meter dash prelims saw Sarah Matthew earn the final qualifying spot in ninth place as she posted a time of 12.14. In the javelin top section, Danielle Maier earned herself a fourth-place finish and a regional qualifying mark with a throw of 151-02 (46.09m). The javelin 'B' Section saw Jaynie Goodbody earn fourth place with her throw of 125-04 (38.20m). Over on the infield Erin Delaney earned a third place finish in the shot put 'B' Section with her toss of 42-04 ¾ (12.92m). In the 200 meter dash, Jakki Bailey posted the best finish for the Cardinal as she recorded a time 24.17 to earn fourth place. Sarah Matthew recorded an 18 place finish with a time of 24.79. Ashley Freeman placed 24 posting a time of 25.09, while Lauren Stewart won her heat with a time of 26.15 and took 31 overall.

Casey Roche of Saint Francis High School (Mountain View, CA) broke the boys meet record with his pole vault mark of 16-06 (5.02m), surpassing the previous record of 16-0 ¼ (4.89m) was set by Steve Harris in 1997. Tori Anthony of Castilleja High School broke the girls meet record in the pole vault with a height of 13-00 (3.96m), besting the previous record of 12-6 (3.81m) set by Rachel Viau in 2002.

Action continues tomorrow, March 31, from Cobb Track and Angell Field at 9:00 a.m. with the girls 400 hurdles and the boys pole vault. The highly anticipated distance carnival will begin at 6:47 p.m. with the women's 1500 meter run.
