Senior Catalina Marin and freshman Belen Mozo turned in 2-over 74s to pace No. 7 USC on the first day of the 2007 Ping/ASU Invitational on Friday (March 30) at the Karsten G.C. in Tempe, Ariz.

USC finished the first round tied for 11th with a combined 305 (+17), 20 strokes back of leader and host Arizona State (285).

Starting on the 10th hole, Mozo went out with a 39 and came in with a 35 while Marin posted 37s on both the back and front nine. They are tied for 21st.

Junior Paola Moreno is tied for 63rd with a 78, senior Veronica Felibert is tied for 69th with a 79 and freshman Caroline Kim is tied for 82nd with an 81.

Kim cracked USC's five-woman lineup because junior Dewi Claire Schreefel is playing as an amateur in the 2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship on the LPGA Tour at the Mission Hills C.C. in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Schreefel posted rounds of 79 and 76 for at two-round 155 (+11). She was just below the cut as second-round play was finishing on Friday.

The ASU/Ping Invitational continues Saturday (starting at 8 a.m.) and Sunday (starting at 7:30 a.m.).
