March 30, 2007
Stanford, Calif. - UCLA (11-14, 1-0 Pac-10) scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning and added three more in the eighth on the way to an 8-2 victory over Stanford (13-10, 0-1 Pac-10) in the Pac-10 opener for both clubs at Sunken Diamond on Friday night. Jermaine Curtis (2-5, 2B, 4 RBI) and Ryan Babineau (2-4, 2 RBI) led the Bruin offense, while Tyson Brummett tossed his third complete game of the season. Brummett struck out nine, while spreading out six hits and walking two.
Michael Taylor blasted a mammoth solo homer off the center field batters' eye with one out in the bottom of the ninth and the Cardinal managed to load the bases on a Joey August single and walks to Jason Castro and pinch-hitter Brendan Domaracki before Brummett struck out pinch-hitter Randy Molina to end the game. August extended his career-high hit streak to nine with his ninth inning single.
