Cal Struggles after Second Round of PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - California is tied for 15th with Washington at 620 Saturday after the second round of the PING/ASU Invitational at Karsten Golf Course. The Golden Bears shot a 312 (+24) today, while the Huskies carded a 313.

Second-ranked Arizona State, the host, leads the 17-team national-caliber tournament at 11-under 565. No. 6 Vanderbilt is in second at 581, and No. 16 Texas A&M is in third at 583. No. 12 UCLA, which began the day in 10th place, climbed to fourth (584) after firing a five-under 283 today. No. 9 Stanford completes the top five at 589.

Arizona State's Jennifer Osborn, who recorded seven birdies and only one bogey, is the top individual at eight-under 136. Her teammate, Anna Nordquvist, and Stanford's Mari Chun are tied for second at 137.

Cal freshman Christina Frick shot her team's lowest round of the day at four-over 76. Frick is tied with sophomores Allison Goodman and Shannon Yocum for 50th at 154 (+11). Yocum, who carded a 79 along with Goodman, had the best finish of any of Cal's golfers today, covering the front nine at one-under on the strength of two birdies and one bogey. Bears freshman Sofia Janer is tied for 66th (158, +14) after tallying a 78 in the second round.

Cal tees off Sunday's final round starting at 7:30 a.m. from the 10th hole. After the ASU Invitational, the Bears compete at the BYU Dixie Classic April 3-4 in St. George, Utah.
