The novice women fought hard but would not be able to overtake Cal and Kansas State in heat B of the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy preliminary. With California well out in front with the lead, the competition was on for second. However, in the final 400 meters, the surge the Trojans would make was not enough as they would cross the finish line only four seats behind a strong Kansas State novice crew.

The Novice Eight will race in the women's collegiate novice petite final at 8:10 a.m. for the Jean Jessop Hervey Cup against UC Davis, Clemson, Santa Clara, San Diego State and UC San Diego.
