Ariana Kukors Places Fifth In 400 IM At FINA World Championships

SEATTLE-- University of Washington signee Ariana Kukors placed fifth in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2007 FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia Sunday with a time of 4:41.87. She was one of two Americans to advance to the final heat including Katie Hoff who won the event in a world record time of 4:32.89.
Joining Kukors and Hoff in the top-5 were Russia's Yanan Martynova in second (4:40.40) and Australia's Stephanie Rice (4:41.19) and Jennifer Reilly (4:41.53) in third and fourth, respectively.
Kukors had been seeded seventh in the event and advanced to the finals with the fourth-fastest time in the preliminary race (4:42.80).
Kukors signed a letter of intent with the Huskies in November and is touted as the top female recruit in the country. She currently trains with King County Aquatics under head coach Sean Hutchison who also serves as a volunteer assistant with the Huskies.
