Tara Kirk Eighth In 200 Breast At FINA World Championships

Melbourne, Australia - Former Stanford women's swimmer Tara Kirk finished eighth in the 200 meter breast at the FINA World Championships on Friday. Kirk swam the finals of the event in a time of 2:28.67. Australia's Leisel Jones was the winner in a time of 2:21.84 that was 4.10 seconds faster than any of her competitors. Kirk swam the event in 2:28.67 in the semifinals on Thursday to enter the finals as the seventh seed, after clocking a 2:28.50 in Thursday's heats to take sixth.
Kirk is still scheduled to swim in the 50 meter breast and as a member of the United States' 4x100 medley relay team of the meet. For more coverage of the eight-day swimming portion of the event that runs through April 1, log on to usaswimming.org.
