Tara Kirk Finishes FINA World Championships With Bronze In 50 Breast

Melbourne, Australia - Former Stanford women's swimmer Tara Kirk finished the FINA World Championships on Sunday by taking the bronze medal in the 50 free. Kirk swam the finals of the event in a time of 31.05 to move up two spots from the 31.27 Saturday semifinals time she swam to enter the finals seeded fifth. She had a 31.39 in Saturday's heats, tied for third best time. The United States' Jessica Hardy (30.63) knocked off 100 and 200 breast champion Leisel Jones (30.70) to take the gold.
Kirk finished the meet with three medals by following her earlier silver medals in the 100 breast and as a member of the United States' 4x100 meter medley relay team.
