WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE senior Brianne McGowan has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 27-Apr. 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

McGowan, a two-time All-American and the 2005 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, threw 28 of a possible 33 innings for the Beavers last week, including every pitch in Oregon State's three Conference games, as the Beavers went 4-1 and 2-1 in its first Pac-10 series. McGowan became the winningest pitcher in school history with her victory on Sunday over California.

McGowan's week began with a complete game shutout of Northern Colorado in the first game of a double-header on Wednesday, Mar. 28. She allowed just one hit and struck out eight in a five-inning, 10-0 win. She added two more innings of scoreless work in the second game, which OSU took, 7-1.

With Pac-10 play beginning on Friday, McGowan assumed the full workload for Oregon State's staff, throwing three-straight complete games over the weekend. She was a hard-luck loser on Friday, as 12th-ranked Stanford came away with a 2-1 win. McGowan allowed six hits, two runs (only one of which was earned), struck out five and walked two, her only walks of the week.

McGowan and the Beavers bounced back on Saturday, as she limited California to three runs on five hits, striking out five in a 4-3 OSU win.

The record-breaker for McGowan was a 6-0 defeat of the Golden Bears on Sunday, in which she pitched a complete game shutout for her 92nd career win, a new program high-mark. It was also McGowan's 33rd shutout, breaking the school's 22-year-old shutouts record. Next on McGowan's records agenda is the all-time strikeout record of 809, held by Crystal Draper, of which she is 14 K's shy.

For the week, McGowan was 3-1 with four complete games and two shutouts. In 28.0 innings she allowed four earned runs (1.00 ERA), 19 hits, and just two walks, while striking out 20.

Oregon State (28-11, 2-1 Pac-10), ranked 18th in the current ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25, is on the road at 12th-ranked rival Oregon this week for two games on April 6-7.

This is McGowan's sixth career Pitcher of the Week honor, tying her for eighth-most in Pac-10 history. It is the 31st Player/Pitcher of the Week award all-time for Oregon State.
