Jensen, Soni Set Records In Duel In The Pool
April 4, 2007
USC senior Larsen Jensen and sophomore Rebecca Soni led a host of current and former Trojans who competed in the USA vs. Australia Duel in the Pool on Tuesday (April 3) at the Sydney (Australia) Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
In helping America to its third win in the event between the world's top swimming powers, Jensen won the 400 free (lcm) in 3:45.04, more than six seconds under the USC record of 3:51.65.
That was the old record of former Trojan Erik Vendt. Vendt still holds a few records in the Trojan books, including the 400 IM (lcm). He won the event Tuesday against the Aussies in 4:14.75. Vendt and former Trojan teammate Klete Keller also raced in the 400 free.
Soni set a couple of USC records herself. She finished second in the 200 breast in 2:24.70 and third in the 100 breast in 1:07.81, breaking a pair of 1996 records set by Kristine Quance. Quance's old marks were 1:09.60 in the 100 breast and 2:28.35 in the 200 breast.
Former Trojan Kaitlin Sandeno was also in action, swimming in both medleys as well as the 200 fly. Troy also had one swimmer competing for the Green and Gold. That was former Trojan Jo Fargus, who competed in the 200 back.
