Cougar Tennis Bucks Santa Clara, 6-1

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Washington State women's tennis team captured five singles victories and earned the doubles point to ease past the Santa Clara Broncos, 6-1, Thursday at the Degheri Tennis Center.
The win improved the Cougars to 13-8 and remained 1-4 in the Pacific-10 Conference, while Santa Clara dropped 5-8.
The Cougars started out the day with doubles victories in the No. 2 and 3 slot. Teammates Anastesia Opata and Amy Toth earned their first doubles dual match victory after an 8-2 win over Stephanie Galainea and Lindsay McBride.
WSU's Ekaterina Burduli captured her 20th victory of the season with a win over Davoudi in the top slot, 6-1, 6-3. Burduli joins teammates Toth and Marjolein van de Ven with back-to-back 20 win seasons.
Marjolein van de Ven increased her team leading record to 23-9 after her 7-5, 6-2 win over Daniel in the No. 3 slot. WSU closed out victories in the final three slots to secure the 6-1 win. Cekic defeated McBride in the No. 4 slot, 6-3, 6-1 to secure the win for WSU.
Redshirt freshman Opata moved to .500 in dual match play after her three-set victory Galainen, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0. Junior Stefanova posted straight-sets en route to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Barnes in the No. 5 slot.
The Cougars return to Pac-10 action Friday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. against top ranked Stanford.
